A boost in the construction sector has contributed to better than expected growth in the UK economy in the second quarter of 2010.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revised its previous estimate of 1.1% growth to 1.2%.
Construction output grew 8.5% in the second quarter, which was up from the previous estimate of 6.6%
One sector that experienced a fall was air travel, which fell by 11%. This though is partly due to the effect of the Icelandic volcanic ash in April.
A spokesman for the Treasury said: “While the government is cautiously optimistic about the path for the economy, the job is not done yet.”
