Eurozone Unemployment Rises to Record High

This April the Eurozone unemployment rate stood at 12.2% and more than 95,000 new people were out of work and the 17 countries using the Euro had a total of 19.38 million unemployed persons with both Greece and Spain having rates above 25%.

Greece, Spain and Portugal have the highest rates but France, Germany and Luxembourg have also reported rising numbers.

Italy also faces a stern challenge with up to 40.5% of young people out of work and President Giorgio Napotitano has described the situation as a ‘social crisis’.
