Starting and Leaving Employment

W

hen employees are starting and leaving employment you need to follow several steps to ensure everything runs smoothly. Our payroll department can help you with the responsibility of a new member of staff joining or an existing person leaving for a new job or retiring. If you outsource your payroll to Steedman and Company you no longer need to worry about this type of issue since we will make sure everything is handled smoothly and any changes are reflected in your accounts.

If you have a new company that previously hasn’t employed any staff we will need to set up a PAYE system for you and register you as an employer, or if you are already on a payroll system we will complete the necessary forms for you. If you do have another accountant handling your payroll and would like to move consider switching payroll provider.

The next step is checking the employment status of your new employee as they may be a contractor or self-employed. This is important to make sure tax and National Insurance requirements are properly set up.

Once this is in place we will confirm that you are set up to deduct the correct National Insurance Contribution (NICs), allocate the right tax code and deal with the P45 for employees who have left other employment prior to joining your business. If the new employee was a student or unemployed we will help you fill out a P46 form for them.

GOOD TO KNOW

When employees leave a P11 form will need filled in which we can help you with as well as assisting you with leaving dates, PAYE references, new tax codes, student loans, deductions and pensions.

Great support at helping run my businesses. My tax is always taken care of.
